FAQs

Q:

What kind of beef do you sell?

A:

We sell Angus beef and Dexter beef. They are grass-fed and raised right here in Marion County by our own GROcala members. The steer are 2 yrs. old when they go to the freezer. They are antibiotic free and hormone free beef raised on bahia grass pasture. Angus are a larger animal, so the resulting steaks will be a bit larger. Dexter are a bit smaller, so the steak cuts will be a bit smaller, but thicker (they are cut to the same weight). Of course, if you order in bulk or split half, you may have the option of specifying your cuts to match your needs. Our individual cuts are USDA certified so that they may be sold individually (per Florida law).

Q:

What is a "split half" of beef?

A:

We sell beef by bulk, split half or quarter, or individual cuts. A split half will include a variety of steaks, roasts, and ground beef (half of a steer... one side of beef). A split quarter will also include a variety of steaks, roasts, and ground beef... just half as much meat (one quarter of a steer). Individual cuts will be sold by weight. Grown right here in Marion County, FL by our own GROcala members.
